The Atlanta, GA VA Medical Center is searching for a full time board certified Infectious Disease Physician with administrative and research experience to serve as Chief of Infectious Diseases. The successful applicant must be acceptable for faculty appointment by Emory University.

Preference will be given to applicants with expertise as investigators and synergistic research interests with the current team, particularly in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, HIV or Hepatitis C

Provides administrative leadership for the VA-based Infectious Diseases Program, supervise resident physicians, and attend on the inpatient Infectious Disease consult service

Must have a strong interest in clinical or laboratory research.

Functions as the specialist in Infectious Diseases and will be responsible for the training of medical residents enrolled in the training program. This position serves as Chief of a multidisciplinary team

Emory University School of Medicine faculty appointment would be absolutely necessary to fulfill the requirement for resident supervision. This appointment would be contingent on evidence of academic service, teaching and success in scholarly activities. Experience in this area including documented history of extramural grant funding and peer-reviewed publications would be necessary.

Additional Qualifications:

Candidate must have research experience and publications in infectious diseases to be acceptable for an academic appointment with Emory University School of Medicine

The candidate must have administrative experience

The candidate must be BLS certified

The candidate must be skilled in infectious diseases, with experience in inpatient consultation

Work Hours: Monday -Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Salary Range: Up to $230,000 per year

Qualifications Required:

Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health or designee).

Education: A degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine. The degree must have obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are:

(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensor.

Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice in your core discipline in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. You must maintain current registration/licensor in the State office holders if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensor

Physical Standards/Requirements: All applicants must be physically, emotionally and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position

English Language Proficiency: Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required
