Responsibilities

Weatherford is hiring a Software Engineer for our Spencer Road Research & Development facility in Houston, TX.

This is the intermediate level job. Performs routine tasks associated with the design, modification, development, writing and implementing software programming applications. Applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to support and/or install software applications/operating systems. Work is overseen by leader to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures. Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. Resolves routine questions or problems, referring only complex issues to a higher level. All work performed is thoroughly reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in any particular order):
  • Develop and maintain engineering software for use in the upstream oil and gas industry.
  • Provide high-quality work in a timely manner with little direction from senior technical staff.
  • Analyze requirements and architecture to perform design and implementation of software applications.
  • Demonstrate understanding and adherence to the software development process.
  • Employ software engineering methods and practices to create artifacts to support the implementation and support of software products.
  • Support the creation of documentation and training material.
  • Understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies.
  • Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.


Qualifications

Required:
  • BS in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a BS in Compuer Science with O&G Industry experience.
  • 5+ years related experience
  • Working knowledge of C/C++, Fortran or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Ability to translate requirements into a solid design and implementation.
  • Understanding of software engineering design principles and analysis algorithms with the ability to translate design and analysis into code.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Analyze complex problems and design appropriate solutions.
  • Strong diagnostic skills to track, trouble-shoot, and solve issues.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform work independently.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to foster teamwork.

Preferred:
  • MS in Engineering with 2-5+ years related experience.
  • PhD or MS in Petroleum Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in Artificial Lift.
  • Experience in oil and gas software development.
